Key Takeaway
SmartTag3 supports location checking and sharing on iOS too, but precision finding does not work the same way. The October 1 announcement lists the devices that support channel sounding separately.
Start by matching your phone with the finding feature you need.
What does iOS compatibility mean?
The official announcement describes features for checking and sharing a tag's location on iOS devices. It is a change worth noticing for families who mix Galaxy and iPhone. But compatibility does not mean every phone gets the same distance and direction guidance.
What conditions apply to precision finding?
Compass View based on channel sounding is supported, per the announcement, only on the Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, S26 Ultra, and S26+. The maximum finding distance also varies with the surrounding environment. Look at your phone model and the supported technology first, and think about whether the tag will also be easy to find in the place where you will leave it.
What should you check about the battery and lost mode?
The battery is a replaceable CR2032. The announcement lists the maximum usage period separately for normal and power saving modes, and it is not a number that guarantees actual usage time. When you register contact details in NFC lost mode, check how much information will be shown to the person who finds the item.
